Coronavirus live: 90 UN peacekeepers contract Covid-19 in Lebanon

 Ninety UN peacekeepers in south Lebanon have tested positive for the novel coronavirus, a spokesman for the UNIFIL force said on Sunday.

Spokesman Andrea Tenenti said 88 of those infected belonged to the same contingent, but he did not specify the nationalities of the peacekeepers.

Global cases of coronavirus hit 28.8 million on Sunday, with 920,000 deaths and 19.5 million recoveries.

The UAE recorded 640 new cases of Covid-19 on Sunday from a further 84,642 tests, with further 468 patients recovering and no further deaths reported.

Dubai has begun a major campaign against those breaching Covid-19 protocols, issuing hundreds of fines and thousands of warnings at shopping malls at the weekend.

Near-perfect' coronavirus vaccine could be ready for approval by October

  US drug giant Pfizer and German firm BioNTech have bullishly predicted that they can have a Covid-19 vaccine available for regulatory approval by the middle of October or early November,  It has an excellent profile and I consider this vaccine ... near perfect, and which has a near-perfect profile," Sahin said in an exclusive interview with   CNN . Pfizer and BioNTech are bidding to offer 100 million doses of their vaccine candidate, BNT162, by the end of the year, and up to 1.3 billion doses in 2021. In July, US Department of Health and Human Services and Department of Defense confirmed a $1.95 billion (Dh7.16 billion) agreement with Pfizer to produce 100 million doses of a Covid-19 vaccine. Nepal Airlines’ Sr Pilot Vijay Lama tests positive for Covid-19

  KATHMANDU:   Nepal Airlines’ Senior Pilot Vijay Lama has tested positive for coronavirus infection. It has been learnt that another NA pilot too has contracted Covid-19.On Sunday, a NA flight had airlifted an army team to Sudan and the pilots and crew got their swabs collected the very day.
